Apple remote (silver)

My mom got a new Apple TV and I have her old one Gen 3. The remote will not connect or pair to the TV. I can’t even use my phone as the remote because I have to connect the original remote first. I’ve tried the menu and right button and the menu and left button but still nothing. I’ve even disconnected the Apple TV from the wall to make sure but still nothing. What do I do ??

You may need to link the remote again to the Apple TV box. Do as described here (including step 1): If your Apple TV remote isn’t working - Apple Support

You are encouraged to reset the device to factory settings, and start with a clean slate, removing all traces of the previous user. Setting up again as new would also have solved the remote issue. Reset or restore your Apple TV to its factory settings - Apple Support
