Cannon Pixma Mp600 printer no longer works in OS 10.13.6 High Sierra - Help anyone ?

Canon do not produce a driver for their mp600 printer that works with OS High Sierra. Does anyone know if there is a solution to this or do I have to throw my perfectly working printer away

Hi,

Canon Europe offers drivers intended for Mac OS X 10.7 and lower only. It is possible that these drivers will work with some newer systems as well.

Have you tried to reset the printing system and re-add the printer?

There is an experimental Gutenprint driver for the Canon PIXMA MP600 according to the list at http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/p_Supported_Printers.php .

Thank you for your effort at helping. Unfortunately I have spent a very long time looking at the pages your link takes me to. The bottom line is it seems only software writers would understand most of it. But even they will be flummoxed by the appallingly bad design of those web pages making it impossibly difficult to either find or make head or tail of anything.

Nevertheless I did download what appeared to be a Canon MP600 driver for OS 10.2 & above. I download & then installed it successfully & then was completely unable to use it as all the various icons just opened pages incomprehensible software information & no information on how to actually use the installed software. So it simply didn't function at all.

Below is the software I downloaded.

Are you able to explain what on earth is going on here ? Thanks.

http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/MacOSX.php this is the weblink and what I downloaded

Gutenprint 5.3.3

gutenprint-5.3.3.dmg  (6.1 MB)

The Gutenprint project is pleased to announce Gutenprint 5.3.3, the first stable release of Gutenprint 5.3. The package is 64-bit only and requires 10.6 (Snow Leopard) or higher.  (source code)

Hello,

Without having your exact combination of computer, operating system, printer model, and printer driver, it is difficult to provide a good answer. I would suggest that you take a look at the project's forums/discussions, or that you contact the developers directly. According to the supported printers list, the driver in question is an experimental version. There is always a certain risk with any experiment. Software conflicts cannot be ruled out, and data can be lost. So, make sure that you have backup copies of all important files on the computer before you try anything. Good luck!
