Photos disappear in Apple Photo App after editing

I am using Apple's Phos App Big Sur (11.1) on a MacBook Pro (2018). My photo library is on an external SSD.

I import images (Canon Raw) and they come in fine. However, if I edit them, crop them or make any adjustments, they disappear. Just a blank tile appears. If I right click and revert to original they come back.

This was not an issue until I upgraded to Big Sur from Catalina (it worked well in Catalina). I see some issues related to this, but most of them are with iPhoto on earlier versions of OS X.

Thanks.

Well, I kept the album open for a bit, and within an hour or two, they behaved as expected. I stared editing about 10 minutes after loading and I guess that was too soon. Seems to be working fine now.
