The Security Updates for Catalina and Mojave have not been posted yet.

Apple will continue to post updates on the Apple Support Download site for Mojave and Catalina,

but not for Big Sur and OS's in the future.

We have systems we cannot update via Software Update. It is essential Apple provide Security Updates for macOS Catalina and Mojave via direct download links from support.apple.com in a timely fashion, not days/weeks later:

https://support.apple.com/kb/DL2067 - 2020-001 for Catalina

We are still waiting for the support pages to download 2021-001 for both supported operating systems. It would also be superb if Apple rolled security updates into fresh OS installers/internet recovery images so that it wasn't necessary to spend lots of time waiting for devices that were just reinstalled with an OS to then update to the latest secure version of that operating system.

Better yet, re-implement a functional disk imaging solution!

This latter is a huge pain point - here we are in an era of super fast SSD that could conceivably lay down an 20GB+ disk image in seconds but Apple decides everything needs to go through their servers to validate the operating system content. We'd love to be able to deploy MacBooks with XCode preinstalled, blasting a customized image onto each in a minute or two, but instead we're looking at 20 minutes to boot to Internet Recovery in some cases, and then a minimum 10 minute OS reinstall, followed by another 10 minute security update. Meanwhile Microsoft Windows can still able to quickly reimaged on non-Apple hardware...

If you are aware of that then why are you posting a question.

The last Security Updates released in December took just over a week to appear.

This Security Update was released on Monday and this is Wednesday.

And remember for Big Sur onwards Apple will not be posting these updates on the

Apple Support Downloads site, and you will have to use System Preferences> Software Update.

As I said the update has not been posted yet, wait a few days more.

For people running Big Sur and newer macOS's in the future Apple will not post these updates

as standalone downloads in the Apple Support Downloads site.

They will provide the updates for Catalina, and Mojave though.

Please note that your first question was simply to ask where one could download the new Security Update from.

You did not say that you were already aware that standalone updates get posted on the Apple Support downloads site.

This may have been useful information for any potential repliers to your question.

And if you were aware of this avenue for getting security updates you would also know that Apple does not make them

available at the same time they become available through the Software Update mechanism.

It used to be a couple of days but lately has been up to a week,

at the time of writing they are still not there.

Who knows why Apple do not make them immediately available only Apple knows, and I doubt

they are going to change things, as said their policy is not to post updates there for their newer OS's starting with Big Sur.

No doubt many people have told them that this is a very poor decision for users with multiple macs and limited

bandwidth, monthly allowance, slow connections etc, etc.

Any knowledge base that you may have used before to get similar updates would have connected you back to the

Apple official servers where the updates are stored. You could probably have traced that using the browser debug mode

to see where the downloads were actually coming from.

It used to be that if you entered

softwareupdate -l

in Terminal you would be informed of

pending updates with the web address they were stored which you could then copy into a browsers address bar

and download that way. Unfortunately the Terminal only shows the pending updates and no longer their web address.

Apple do not monitor these communities so writing here with your woes will not be heard,

As someone who works for a software company and is involved in the updates process. It would be unthinkable for us to push updates just to our repos and not to our site.

All our updates are automatically added to our repos and site simultaneously. For an organisation the size of apple to not be posting updates on their site at the same time they are available for download on the software update app is insane to me when Windows and even a small company like i work for does. Furthermore, that they will not be posting updates for Big Sur and future OSs is madness.

Previously downloading the updates was not that big of an issue for me as i could just bring the laptop i had to places with free wifi or download at work but currently with COVID restrictions I have to use my home internet which has limited bandwidth and incur costs when i go over that. Unfortunely as I live in a remote area I have no other options with ISP.

Big Sur standalone updates are available in the form of install assistants for those who prefer manually updating their OS.

Alternatively you can fetch a full installer via Terminal.

Unfortunately this method doesn't apply on security and supplemental rollups as you're forced using the software update mechanism from the System Preference pane or the command-line built-in tool.
