Can I use iMovie to edit a piece of video footage and save it as edited without actually making a movie

Sorry, I put my question in the heading. I don't want to make a movie at the moment, but I have lots of drone video footage that I want to edit, like deleting parts of the video and any other alterations i Movie can make. I then want to save it so that the footage can be used in the future for a movie.

Yes. iMovie automatically saves your work as you do your editing. You can close your project at any time and return to it to take up where you left off. You can share it out as a movie file as many times as you want, whenever you want. The editable project will still remain intact in your projects browser (where your projects are displayed as icons).
