I have a Toshiba external hard drive that will show me the partitions but I cannot open them or download anything. My iTunes and Photos and all my businesses, inc. mp3s for sale on Vimeo are on it. I was hit w/cancer at the time and very stupidly did not make a copy.

If I use Disk Utility First Aid on my Macbook Air Catalina, will it delete my files on the corrupted hard drive? My option is $700-2700 for a Drive Savers fix, if possible.

Hi globell,

I'm so sorry to hear about your illness.

Regarding Disk Utility, running First Aid will not erase anything. It just checks the drive and attempts to repair it. Just don't click "Erase", that will erase the drive. Run First Aid on all the partitions and the physical drive by hitting "View" > "Show All Devices".

Cheers,

Jack
