can you store music in iCloud?

do you have to have paid music subscription to store music in iCloud?

Yes and no.


iTunes Match and Apple Music get you an iCloud Music Library which can be streamed to enabled devices. You ca store 100,000 tracks and they are not part of your iCloud storage. The cost is covered by the subscription.


Technically you can upload music files to iCloud Drive, but I don't suggest you do that. The music is not visible in the Music app. So no artwork, playlists etc. You can play the music from iCloud Drive via the Files app, but the experience is not the same as the Music app.
