My iphone xr stopped working and i want to see if i have an text messages how an i check that

You will need a cellular telephone to receive and see your text messages. If your iPhone is dead, then your SMS/MMS texts cannot be received nor shared with any other Apple device you paired with the iPhone. So they will be sitting in the queue with your cellular carrier waiting for a cellular telephone on your account to connect to receive them. If you have another Apple device (iPad, iPod touch or Mac) you can still get your iMessages on it.
