Some files not readable on external drive, which is NTFS

Just wondering, because on one of my external drives for a Windows computer, I had one folder with photos which was readable fully, on my Mac. However, another folder which should contain more things shows up as empty on Mac, even on the info for the folder says it occupies no space, when I know there is stuff there. Is this just an issue with reading NTFS on Mac?

M1 Macs might have issues with NTFS, otherwise they are read-only (without 3rd party add-ons). For Windows compatibility I'd suggest formatting the device as exFAT (GUID) on the Mac (formatting on Windows 10 might also be OK).
