Thanks for your replies. I managed to start in safe mode and the 11.2.2 install performed now successfully. Within 20 mins everything completed.

I think I hit the shift key too early and the you don't see the start in safe mode option...

To compare - have an Intel 2018 Retina MBA with T2 Touch ID. Erased the Drive of Catalina via USB Installer of Big Sur 11.01 and installed - what I call a True Clean Install.

After reading about your issue, wipeout the rMBA last night after supper. Booted to Safe Mode immediately and voila the 11.2.2 was Alerting available. Have No VPN or AntiVirus Installed ( thus not Disabled ) download the 2.64 GB update in 10 mins on Wifi with not other devices using Wifi. The Preparing the Update took about 40 min - 8 or 9 Automatic Restart, as part of the Installer process and up and running without issues. My Internet Connection for ISP is not super or even that fast - 50 MB download and 10 upload speed ( ISP to offer Direct Fibre to Home in April )

The reason for sharing - lesson to learn - VPN an AV software regardless if Disabled - they are there and have Altered the Performance and Interfered the the Normal Operation of the OS.

update big sur 11.2.2
