mail won't display messages

mail is in meltdown. yesterday, my "sent" folder disappeared and i have not found a solution.


today, messages do not display when i click on the message in the inbox display. i can click from one message to another but no message content appears. new messages appear in boldface but neither old nor new messages are visible.

Mac mini, macOS 11.0

Start with this...


Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at startup), does the problem occur in Safe Mode? Could take 10 minutes.


Safe mode attempts to repair Disks & clears lots of caches & loads safe Drivers, & prevents loading of 3rd party extensions, so if Safe Mode works try again in regular boot.
