Single artists listed as "Various Artists" in Music

I have seen various answers to this question but none that actually solves the issue: Apple Music set the Artist as Various. When checking this on my iMac I can sometimes see the Compilation box is checked but in half the cases it is unchecked while still being displayed under ? for albums on my iPhone. What do I need to do to get Music to accept my choice and to display the album with the correct artist? Thanks

I assume this is music you bought from the iTunes Store or imported from a CD (for example) and are then syncing to your device. If so, it mostly depends on how you want the music to be grouped. If, for example, it is a "Best of the 70's" album and you want it grouped that way then the songs would be part of a Compilation and might indeed be Various Artists (to have the songs appear in order they are in the album). But if you want the songs to grouped under each artists name instead then uncheck there Compilation box. In either case, be sure to sort the songs the way you want (I believe that is one of the last tabs in the info box). For more options on how songs are/can be grouped, bring up the info box on your iMac and set accordingly:

Hi, thanks for your response. Seems I was not clear enough in my question: For example I have an album by Isaac Hayes titles "Branded" on Apple Music on my MacBook and iMac which can be found when scrolling to Isaac Hayes. When suing my iPhone this does not work - the album is under "?". Opening the details I can see that the box for complations is unchecked but it is still listed under "Various Artist". I can't seem to get my iPhone to move the album to Isaac Hayes. On ohter albums I have unchecked the various artist's box with no difference - Music on the iPhone still maintains the Various Artist status.
