Transferring data from old IPhone to a new IPhone

Hi, just a question about transferring content from my old iPhone to my new iPhone. My old iPhone is not backed up, do I need to back it up in order to do the transfer?

Not required but advisable if something goes wrong.

Backing up to a computer is 100 times faster than an iCloud version.
