Upgrade Mojave

Just a question how many different ways are there to upgrade a Mac with Mojave OSX to Catalina?

As far as I am aware you can do the following:

1) Plug in an external hard disk with Catalina image on it and hold down option key and boot off it.

2) Logon to Mac and go to apple icon https://www.apple.com/uk/macos/how-to-upgrade/ and upgrade

3)

I am working in a corporate environment that uses JAMF/Intune and we can try to go to self service to install Catalina.

How to create a bootable installer for macOS

1 - of your points - what do you mean Catalina Image on external drive. Catalina would have be Installed on the External and functional. Or do you mean a Copy of the Installer Catalina Application. If the second of the two - it will not work. If the first - yes works.

Thanks however the issue is more complicated, we can't get into the OS we can only boot it up by pressing command +R or pressing and holding option with the external hard drive plugged in with Catalina OS on it.

But we get these errors (apparently the resident tech seems to think this is an easy fix?) to create a local admin account?
