Why does Apple want us to not gift songs any more. I really can't afford to buy everyone a whole album. I just tried to 'gift' a song and it only gave me an option to buy the whole album.
What's happened? This has never been easy but now looks impossible. Can we no longer buy songs for friends?

Thanks, javaliga, I finally found it. I've never understood why Apple wanted to make it so hard to buy music. And if they'd let us hear the whole song at least once I'd probably buy twice as much. Oh well, thanks for helping me! 😄

The option is still there, but it may not be obvious. See the figure in the 'How to send a gift from your computer' section of:
Gift apps, music, movies, and more from Apple - Apple Support
But instead of clicking the downward arrow button 
next to the item's price on the left hand side, click the downward arrow button next to the item's price for the song on the right hand side.
Can only gift an album on my iMac.....
