More than 500 safari tabs

I have 500 safari tabs open (yes I know it’s insane, please leave your rude comments at the door). There have been times I’ve clicked a link and it’s opened a new tab, but when I close that tab it says I now have 499 tabs open. Does safari delete the oldest tab or something if you go over the 500 limit?

If you open until the 500th tab, than click on the bottom right icon with the rectangle on top of another, than click new tab, it will says:” You have 500 tabs open, and 30 (this number is just my phone) older than one month. To open more you will need to close some tabs.”

Now if you click a link, it will still open a new tab, but in place of that new tab it will delete not the oldest tab, but the oldest tab within one month from the time you last use that tab. Meaning, if you open a tab more than one month ago, and another tab in one month, it will apparently delete the latter for some reason??? I don’t get why it just decide to not delete the oldest one. And yes it took me half an hour to open 500 tabs and check this because I was really bored I guess. I don’t know if this result is just my phone or not (i’m on ios 14.6 right now), so if anyone is crazy enough to test this I would like to know the result as well.

I’m definitely reaching the tab limit on my iPad, it TELLS me I’ve reached 500. UNFORTUNATELY, that’s a lie.....I’ve scrolled through all my tabs, as well as accessing the drop down tab options using the icon in the top right corner. There’s ONE HUNDRED not 500.

So, my question is.....WHERE ARE these alleged excess 400 tabs I’ve presumably never closed? The conversations I’ve noted on this definitely contain some scathing remarks from people who find it ludicrous that anyone might need 500 tabs open.....well, let me reassure you, WE DON’T! Right now, I’m at 92....and when I open 8 more it will not allow me to open another one. It will tell me I have reached a limit of FIVE HUNDRED.... either it’s lieing or I have 400 tabs missing from the browser! Anyone?

Hi, iPadOS has a feature where it can have multiple windows of tabs open. Unfortunately, it can be hard to find those windows. If you long press on the Safari icon on the Home Screen, then press “show all windows,” it will show the other windows where your other tabs might be hiding. Since windows are sometimes created without noticing, it can be easy to lose your tabs in old windows. Alternately, to clear these windows, you can long press the tabs icon in the top right of safari and “merge all windows” to put all of your hidden tabs into one window. You can then long press the same icon and “close all 500 tabs” to close them all.
