Re start issues.

Imac late 2012. On start up an Apple logo appears with a progress bar. This lasts for about two minutes, the screen then goes black. Then a white screen with a message that says, your computer restarted because of a problem, press any key or wait a few moments before restarting. This cycle just continues and has done for 24 hours.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try booting into safe mode How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support and then restarting normally.

If that doesn't help boot into recovery and run disk utility until it reports that it found no errors.
