Desktop Keynote Won't Allow Images To Be Inserted

Hey everyone.

I freelance for various agencies and some of them use keynotes to build their decks. I have never had any trouble with adding images to my presentation decks until this recent gig. Whenever I try to insert an image, it says The image “xxx.jpg” couldn’t be inserted.

At first I thought it was a corrupt file. But I made a new file, and even throughout all the decks I have been working on, the issue remains.

What I have to do to work around it, is make the keynote an iCloud deck and then upload images via the web browser. This obviously slows me down. I can also copy and paste images into the deck. I don't know why this issue is present and can't find anything about it. Any help would be extremely appreciated as the current flow is slowing me down.

  • Have tried restarting app and computer
  • Sometimes if I force quit the Keynote app it works for the first image and then nothing else
  • I have not tried to uninstall the app and reinstall it (been too busy but it is on my list of things to do)

Thank you everyone!

Try using a new Mac User Account to get you working again in Keynote for Mac:

https://support.apple.com/en-gb/guide/mac-help/mtusr001/mac

It will not resolve the issue in your main account, but will confirm where the problem is.
