Every time I try to sample a track I get an invitation to join Apple Music & when I decline & try to sample again the same thing happens. In another thread (now closed) the advice is to go to Music>Preferences>General & untick Sync to Music. Someone comments that this worked. Mine doesn't even show this option (see screenshot)?

Perhaps you are looking in Apple Music instead of the iTunes Store. Make sure to click the icon as shown below.
