System crashing after upgrade to Big Sur 11.3

My system has crashed six times in a few hours. I have no idea what app is the cause. Most often it crashes when left for a while, running Mail, Photos, and a mix of others. Any ideas anyone?

First thing that Jumps - Adware - Adware detected. Run the Malwarebytes and then run the Etrecheck again. It should be removed.

Second - Kernel panics - This system has experienced kernel panics. This could be a sign of hardware failure.

Run a Time Machine Backup Right Away and perhaps time to have machine Evaluated by Apple Authorized Service Centre.

Hi derrickfromvic,

I believe we need to proceed with an EtreCheck report. EtreCheck is a useful app to diagnose and identify issues, both hardware and software. It is trusted by many users. Please follow the steps outlined below:

  1. Navigate to: https://etrecheck.com and get the free version of EtreCheckPro.
  2. Download it. It is a free and trusted app. It is often recommended here on Apple Support Communities.
  3. Open EtreCheck, and before running the report, be sure to check “Allow full Drive Access” at the bottom of the EtreCheckPro window.
  4. Run the report, and put it in a post, as seen here: https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-250000211. We will then examine the report for issues in your Mac.

Cheers,

Jack

System crashing after upgrade to Big Sur 11.3

I firstly upgraded to Big Sur 11.3.1, thinking that just maybe that would fix the problem. The system crashed partway through, so had to be started over, this time I nursed it through successfully. I then ran Malwarebytes and I quarantined the adware Mindspark, then ran EntreCheck again, report attached. The system is behaving as before i.e it crashes a couple of minutes of no operator action. Thanks for this advice so far.

  1. EtreCheck helps to find issues. It checks software and some hardware (the hard drive.) Your issue is likely software.
  2. I've never seen any poor reviews for EtreCheck. It's helped me before.
  3. NO! I am not connected to EtreCheck! I am a volunteer trying to help others, just like most of the other users here, except for some Apple Community Specialists.
  4. All we need is the free part of EtreCheck!

See jeffreythefrog's response as well.

Thanks for your response, Jack. I'm unsure of using the app EtreCheck however. Firstly, since my issue began with the upgrade to Big Sur 11.3 it is likely that this is the source of the problem, not my mac and from what I've read it's the hardware that is being checked. Perhaps I'm wrong? Secondly, the reviews that I've read on EtreCheck are mixed. Thirdly, Jack are you connected with EtreCheck in any way? I see that the free part is limited and that there's a charge for the useful bit. Not that I'm against paying for a useful app you understand, but I'm wary that this is a sales pitch?

So, to sum up, I'm a little wary. I was hoping for any similar experiences and perhaps a work-around until Apple fix 11.3.

that is wrong on both points. problems after an upgrade are, more often than not, software issues that were not an issue with older software but become an issue when carried over to the new macOS. and, yes, etrecheck checks your hardware, but it also checks installed software. the report can show us if there is any software known to cause issues installed on your mac. and it automatically removes any and all things that are sensitive info, so there's no worry in sharing the report here.

as far as the free version versus the paid version, the free version is more than adequate for most users, and will give us the info we need to be able to isolate which software is causing your issue. if you don't want to use it, that's your choice, but it kind of limits us on how to help you without playing 100 questions.

and finally, we don't get any compensation from etrecheck for recommending it. it just helps us to help you.
