Can you convert Microsoft Word documents to Apple Pages
I want to close my Microsoft subscription. If I do, can I convert my Microsoft Word and Excel documents into Apple pages? I do not want to lose the material.

You can, but…
MS Word is not Pages, and Pages is not MS Word. Several features supported in one of these applications is not supported in the other, and will not survive the translation from one to the other.
Before dropping your MS subscription text several Word document of the types you produce.
Converting the file is pretty simple.
Launch Pages.
In the File menu choose Open.
Navigate to and choose the MS Word file you want to translate, then click Open.
Pages will open the file, import a copy and translate the copy to its own internal format, and display the contents as a Pages document with the same name as the Word file, but a .pages extension in place of the .docx extension.
How well the Pages document matches the Word one depends on what Word features you used that are not supported, orare supported differently, in Pages. (you will likely get a message that a ont has been replaced as the original will have uses a MS font not installed on your Mac.
Whether Pages is an acceptable replacement for Word will depend on the closeness of the match AND how often you share your Word docs with other users of MS Word. If it's a regular thing, you might also want to take a look at LibreOffice, an open source application designed to more closely support the features of Word (and of Excel).
