Can you confirm what year and model and screen size iPad Pro do you have/own?

The “A” model number can be found on aluminium back of your iPad in small print right under the larger bold print “iPad”.

An iPad Pro with only a 10.5 inch screen CANNOT use the newer 2nd gen Pencil.

A 2017, 10.5 inch screen iPad Pro or the 2019, 10.5 inch screen iPad Air 3 uses the original, 1st gen Pencil with the silver/chromed/metallised top cap/band with the Lightning connector protective magnetic cap.

Make sure the tip of the Pencil is screwed on securely/snugly ( NOT TOO tight ).
