Where has airplay gone?

I don't seem to have airplay on my macbook air anywhere - how do I get it? In display settings in the AirPlay Display drop down menu the only option is "Off" so I can't turn it on at all.

MacBook Air 11″, macOS 10.15

Hi green_pixies,

AirPlay options will only appear if your Mac detects an AirPlay-compatible device nearby and on the same Wi-Fi network. This could be an Apple TV, certain smart TVs, etc.

I currently don't have any recommend troubleshooting other than what's already in the article that you linked: If AirPlay or screen mirroring isn’t working on your device - Apple Support

Just to note, it isn't possible to stream another device's content onto your Mac via AirPlay (your Mac can't be used as a receiver).
