Spills are too often fatal to the computer. If it is not working now properly now, it is not going to get better with time, and there is nothing you can do at home to get around this.
Put your homeowners'/renters' insurance on notice of a potential loss now. Many such policies covert accidental damage to your tech, so that may be the only financial help you get unless you have a valid AppleCare+ policy.
