Device name reset without my intervention

Hello,

I've just updated my device to iOS 14.6, after that my Wi-Fi stopped working.

My internet connection was ok, every other devices has been connected without a problem, so I found solution by reseting "Network settings".

After that I've found out, that the name of my device has been reseted to factory setting.

I haven't found any information about what reseted name of my device and what else has been reseted.

Was it the update or that reset of network settings?

In addition I would like to see all of the Wi-Fi connections I've had, because now after reset I do not know how many connections I've lost and before I did not find out where are stored data of all Wi-Fi's.

iPhone SE, iOS 14

Reset Network Settings: Only network settings are removed.

  • When you reset network settings, previously used networks and VPN settings that weren’t installed by a configuration profile or mobile device management (MDM) are removed. Wi-Fi is turned off and then back on, disconnecting you from any network you’re on. The Wi-Fi and Ask to Join Networks settings remain turned on.
  • To remove VPN settings installed by a configuration profile, go to Settings > General > Profiles & Device Management, select the configuration profile, then tap Remove Profile. This also removes other settings and accounts provided by the profile. See Install or remove configuration profiles on iPhone in this guide.
  • To remove network settings installed by MDM, go to Settings > General > Profiles & Device Management, select the management, then tap Remove Management. This also removes other settings and certificates provided by MDM. See “Mobile device management (MDM)” in the iOS Deployment Reference.
  • Reset your Network Settings. Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. This also resets Wi-Fi networks and passwords, cellular settings, and VPN and APN settings that you've used before.

Hello,

I would like to say just one thing.

I am new here, just because of my problem. I am searching through Apple discussions for few hour now and I just want to say that this site is amazing.

I've find out that some users had this exact same problem few updates earlier. That means sometimes updates of our iOS just reset the name of updated device and nothing else (hopefully).

Hi,

It is a good reply, but I am still unsure with my case.

As I wrote. Only thing I've restarted was network settings. (Which should restart only all the Wi-Fi connections, VPNs, etc.)

Yes, it did help me with connection problem.

But something reseted name of my device. Yes it is nothing really important, however it was reseted without my knowledge. That means there is possibility of reseting something else in my phone.

I am just looking for people with similar inconveniences, who already know where the truth is.

So is there any other setting except "reset device", that is able to reset name of one and only device? For example update to newer iOS?
