How may i connect ipad 8th generation 2020 to my laptop core i5 3rd generation

I don't know how to connect ipad 8th generation 2020 to laptop core i5 3rd generation...because when i connect ipad old usb lead with lightning connector to laptop then suddenly ipad hang...but when i pull off lead ipad come to same condition
