14.6 Update Ruined AirDrop

After downloading this last, AirDrop has stopped working. I have tried every single troubleshooting article I could find. Every. one. I. could. find. It's too frustrating. Is this happening to anyone else? I'm open to options, but I've tried many. I'm just going to make an appt. I've also had nothing but consistent issues with Catalina, so they've really double-teamed this one.

Like just about every large company Apple has both formal technical support and an area where users can discuss technical issues with other users. And, like all of those other companies, Apple does not participate in any significant way in the user-to-user discussions, as that might inhibit the free flow of ideas. The formal name of this area is Apple Support Communities. The “Communities” should be a giveaway that this isn’t a formal support site. And if that doesn’t, the site itself is https://discussions.apple.com. The “discussions” is another giveaway.

Apple’s formal support can be reached several ways:

Note that both of the above have options to receive a callback or chat

Well I got it! I had been restarting my machine and powering off my phone and powering it back on over and over, but tried a force reboot with the volume up/down and holding power button instead. Boom. Popped right back up. Something must’ve got stuck in the update. Thanks Lawrence for not being condescending or rude and possibly talking me down from throwing both my phone and machine out of my window. Figures it was something simple.

Sorry “chat” 😆, but if that’s the case I’ll def give it a try. I just assumed bots because I’m in a bad mood.

I have sympathy for your bad mood, it must be frustrating. If you use Get Support you should have an option for a chat or a callback. Both are live human beings. If you choose callback be sure to turn off Settings/Phone/Silence Unknown Callers. Just on a hunch, are you currently using a VPN connection? If will block AirDrop. So can some router settings if the AirDrop port is disabled. And you need both devices to be on the same Wi-Fi network and have Bluetooth enabled.
