Possible to use USB mouse/keyboard with M1 iMac?

Attempting to use daskeyboard mechanical USB keyboard & mouse with new 2021 iMac. Doesn't see either devices. Both devices are plugged into Orico GEN2 HUB, that is connected to USB-C port on back of iMac. Any Ideas?

As a test, try connecting the keyboard and/or mouse directly to the iMac with a USB-C to USB adapter instead of the hub.

For example, I have two of these Philips adapters that work from my USB-C ports.
