Syncing an SRT file with the Timeline

I have an SRT file that is about 4 seconds ahead of the audio in the movie.

  1. Is there a way to select the entire subtitle line (rather than each section)?
  2. If not, then how do I disconnect the subtitle line so that I can shorten the movie to sync with the audio? I can shorten the movie, but the subtitle line moves with the timeline.

Thanks

Are you importing this with File->Import->Captions...?

The timing in the srt file is absolute. Once you import, they are no longer absolute, but tied to specific places in your timeline.

Your solution, if I understand the problem correctly, is to delete the captions, shorten the movie and import the srt file again.
