I have an iPhoto application which I can't open now because of the new Catalina 10.15 operating system. Is there anyway I can access these photos?

Photos replaced iPhoto many years ago, and there is an upgrade path.

Launch Photos with the option key held down. From the resulting dialog choose your iPhoto library. Photos will create a new library from your iPhoto media. Your iPhoto Library will not be changed, though it will be renamed.

The advice I got from Keith worked. However, today I open photos and all of the pictures I thought I had moved from my old iPhoto application were gone. Obviously, I did something wrong. I tried to follow Keith's advice again and the iPhoto library does not show up when I launch Photos with the option key held down in the dialog box. Can Keith or someone else help me out of this quagmire? Thank you.

Thank you Leonie. I was in the middle of backing up my external drive when it quit because it was full. I went back and deleted old backups and then ran a back up again when there was sufficient memory and the old iPhoto pictures were no again in Photos. So, Keith's initial advice and then your connecting me back to considering my external drive allowed me out of the wilderness. (-:

I appreciate you and Keith both!
