my iphone apple id is connected to a old email address. I have my new email address on my pc for my apple id. my iphone will not let me change the iphone id to my current address. it says this email is not available

I no longer have an email address that my iPhone still recognizes. I changed my apple id on the apple id website via my profile on the apple website; therefore, the website only recognizes my new apple id (email address) and apple id password.
However, I can't seem to delete my old apple id (old email address on my iPhone 11). When I want to download a new app, my iPhone 11 asks me for my apple id password that goes with my old apple id; however, I don't remember my old apple id password.
When I tap on "forgot my apple id password," I receive the six-digit verification code.
However, my iPhone skips the landing page where I should enter the six-digit verification code and returns directly to the "enter your apple id password" for the old apple id email address.
Any advice on how I can delete my old apple id? I only have two apps using it on my iPhone 11, which are of no consequence.
Delete the two apps that are using the old ID.
Check your purchases history to make sure all apps on the phone were downloaded using your current ID.
Then try signing out of the App Store/iTunes, restarting the device, and then signing back in.
If you have a new address for your Apple ID on the PC, you probably have 2 Apple IDs. Apple IDs can't be merged.
