You can either back up your data to iCloud, or if you don’t have enough iCloud storage, you can purchase more, or back up directly to your computer.

*To back up with iCloud

  1. Go to Settings > [your name] > iCloud > iCloud Backup
  2. Tap Back Up Now.

*To back up with a computer

  1. Open Finder (macOS Catalina or later) or iTunes (macOS Mojave or earlier, or Windows)
  2. Select your device’s name from the sidebar, or the iPhone icon from the top
  3. Make sure “Back up to This Computer” is selected, then select Back Up Now.

You can encrypt it with a password if you like, but keep this password safe, since you’ll not be able to recover it if you lose your password.

To later restore the information on your new iPhone, follow these steps:

  1. Proceed through Setup as usual.

When you get to the Apps & Data screen…

*If you backed up through iCloud

    1. Select Restore from iCloud
    2. Sign in with your Apple ID
    3. Select the backup that you’ve made. After the loading bar finishes, iPhone still needs to download data from the backup. You can check this through Settings > [your name] > iCloud > iCloud Backup

*If you backed up with your computer

    1. Select Restore from Mac or PC
    2. Connect your iPhone to your computer. Finder or iTunes should automatically open. If not, manually open it.
    3. At the Welcome to your New iPhone screen, select the backup you’ve made, then click Restore. Enter the backup password, if needed, and wait.

Do not disconnect your iPhone while your computer restores your iPhone.

Good luck!
