What does this exclamation mark in garageband mean?

sometimes when I load a plugin (it's happened with 2 or 3 different plugins) I get this orange circle with an exclamation mark in it and the plugin won't load. I can usually get it working by removing then re-adding it or rebooting garageband. Is this a "not enough RAM to load this plugin" error?

I'm on a 2020 M1 mac mini running big sur with 16gb RAM. No other apps running except occasionally Music when I've exported a track.

Are these third party plugins? I would guess some sort of Rosetta failure, since they prbably aren't native.
