App Store Purchase

I'm trying to purchase an app with a apple gift card but it's not letting me do so. I'm in family sharing and the only payment method it's letting me use is the organizers card. How can I fix this?

You erased the error message but it seems to me under the smudge there is a message in red under there which indicates a problem. You cannot remove the only payment method but that payment method has an error. You need to eitehr find out what the error is and deal with it so the payment method is valid again, or you need to add a different payment method and move it to the top so you can remove hte broken one.

You don't actually get to select a payment method. The payment method for Family Sharing is automatic:

1. If anybody in the family buys or subscribes to something, Apple first attempts to charge the item to that individual's Apple ID balance, if any.

2. If a family member does not have enough personal balance, any excess will be charged to the Family Organizer's primary payment method (usually a card of some kind). The Organizer's personal balance will not be used for purchases made by other family members. If it cannot bill the primary payment method then it will just work its way down the Organizer's list of payment methods until it finds one it can.

- "Some purchases, including gifts, can't be billed to Apple ID balance and will be charged to the family organizer's payment method." "Some subscriptions might not be charged to Apple ID balance."

Some purchases aren’t charged to your Apple ID balance

- If you're in a Family Sharing group, purchases are charged to your personal Apple ID balance. If you don't have enough Apple ID balance to pay for the purchase, the remainder is charged to the family organizer's primary payment method.

- You can’t charge gifts to your Apple ID balance. If you send a gift or gift card, your primary payment method is charged.

- Some subscriptions might not be charged to your Apple ID balance.

What happens when you select the Visa method to reveal details? Does it show an error?

Are you the Family Organizer? Yes/No

If not, have you asked the Family Organizer if there's a problem with the payment method they have entered?

Nobody in the family can select a payment method. It either comes from your balance or a card the organizer has in their account, working its way down the list. If the organizer's card isn't working then I am guessing it reflects down the system to family members, that's why it would help to know if you are the organizer or not. If you are not, ask your organizers about the card.

If you cannot resolve this then contact Apple and see if this is some strange alignment of the planets causing this.
