I have already looked at this old thread which hasn't helped - https://discussions.apple.com/thread/7668769 ...Essentially, I'm having this problem and someone else I know is having the same problem. Why does OSX Photos tell me that my iPhone photos in iCloud are unsupported? Videos will not play, or if they do play it is choppy and might not finish.

Ahh, that makes sense. We both have mid-2014 Macbook Pros. Thank you for that info! I'm planning on purchasing the new 16" MBP when it launches.. hopefully soon, so I'll leave the HDR on for now. Thanks again
What year is your mac.
Most likely it can’t play the Dolby vision HDR format. Only macs from around 2018 can. Turn off HDR on your phone, and you will (probably) be fine.
