A mid-2012 through early-2013 MacBook Pro can be upgraded to Catalina 10.15.7 but not beyond that. See: How to get old versions of macOS - Apple Support

Catalina is what I would upgrade to if it was my MacBook Pro mid-2012, but be aware that it will not run 32-bit apps so you may need to also upgrade some of your apps. The following has more details: https://www.macworld.com/article/232735/how-to-check-if-mac-software-is-32-or-64-bit.html
