Documents folder missing

I'm on an old company iMac that is having issues opening some Adobe software and I think it's because there is no documents folder for this machine. It is NOT using iCloud to backup the desktop or documents. I have tried selecting iCloud backup desktop & documents but every time I open the settings again backup desktop & documents is unchecked again.

I have tried all the step by steps I could find but it seems like the only other option is to buy 3rd party software to 'restore' the folder.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Okay, so problem solved. What I did have was a hidden file which was actually a locked alias/shortcut of the document folder. Once this was unlocked and then deleted, miraculously the real document folder appeared. I've got no idea how this all happened but it's all fixed now.
