battery has a "service recommend" notice

I bought a 2017 MacBook 12 in notebook from a business. they update every couple years for their employees. I knew ahead of time that the battery wasn't great, but the service recommended light came on after a couple of days of use. Does that mean I need a new battery? I watched a couple YouTube videos on how to replace them, but I'm having a hard time finding out what battery number I need to order. Is it worth it to replace it? or should I buy a whole new computer?

If service battery came on, it's time for a new battery. You'd have to compare the cost of getting a new battery to that of a new computer but I'm guessing the battery will be worth it. You'll find pricing at https://support.apple.com/mac/repair/service. Depending on what you use the computer for, you might consider upgrading. I had my last MacBook Pro for 10 years, the current one is on year 4. I'm hopeful that I'll get a few more years out of the current one.
