configure length of time for photos display in iMovie for iPad?

When I’m making a movie out of just still photos using iMovie on my iPad, how do I set the length of time each photo displays? Thanks.

Hi again :)

In this article:

Add video clips and photos in iMovie on iPad

https://support.apple.com/en-au/guide/imovie-ipad/knac787725/2.3/ipados/14.0

according to the info on using photos in iMovie on iPad,

amongst video clips in the timeline, it seems that:

"The added photo appears for a duration of 3 to 6 seconds,

depending on the length of the transitions that appear before and after the photo,

but you can shorten or extend the duration using trim handles"

So, could be no controls on timing in iPad's iMovie because iMovie does it using the trim handles ?

Sorry, I'm more familiar with the settings in iMovie on Mac.

You may be able to adjust the number of frames played back per second ?

  • a high frame rate appears to play back in slow motion,
  • a low frame rate appears to play faster than real time
  • a normal frame rate would be around 30 frames per second (fps)

In the Photos app the frame rate is more like a few seconds per frame ... instead of frames per second.

That is it. Thank you. I think I saw that a day or two ago but didn’t quite understand the feature. But now that I look at it that’s exactly right - you drag the handles of any individual photo to increase the length of time that photo displays. I think it didn’t sink in when I first saw it because I’m used to the slideshow feature of the Photos app which allows you to set the amount of time for all photos. i didn’t quite get that with iMovie it’s much more granular - you set the display time for each photo individually, and you use the trim handles of each photo rather than using a global setting that works throughout. Thanks much.
