Is it quicker to migrate an old computer to a new Mac using time machine or via wireless connection?

Please read Setup Assistant and Migration Assistant for instructions.

One thing to keep in mind is that the instructions for Migration Assistant say you can do the transfer via Wi-Fi. For some people this will work just fine. For others, no. What can happen is that Wi-Fi's transfer speed may be too slow for these very large files and corruption may occur, causing the file not to complete it's installation. Using a wired USB connection will ensure this does not happen.
