Purchased the iPhone 12 Max in May. Display brightness dimmed intermittently. Apple support by phone and text tried since the purchase to resolve the problem without success. A repair by Apple Leeds where purchased also did not remove the problem.
Apple eventually replaced the item. And …..the issue is evident on the new phone. Obviously a design issue somewhere.

Wow, I've not heard about that issue.
One final thing to try is: go to Settings > Display & Brightness and check the settings. Then switch them back and forth to see if it helps.
