how do i reduce file size?

How do I reduce the file size of a photo? I am trying to upload it and it says file size is too big.

MacBook Air 13″, macOS 10.15

File -> Export and in the resulting dialogue use the Quality setting to reduce file size. Lower quality means smaller files.
