Update 2011 MacBook Pro

I have a 2011 MacBook Pro with an intel i5 processor, 4GB of ram, 320GB HDD. It’s from October of 2011.

I’m wondering if I can update the software so I can use the computer.

If so, will I have to update/increase the ram? Or do any other hardware modifications?

Thank you,

Luke

The model year of a MacBook Pro is available at Apple menu > About This Mac.

A mid-2010 through late-2011 MacBook Pro can be upgraded to High Sierra 10.13.6 but no later version. See: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT211683
