iPad 8th gen mouse / keyboard

I am due to start university. I have an 8th generation iPad. Instead of buying a laptop I am considering getting a mouse and keyboard to use with the iPad.

Is it possible to use a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard with an 8th gen iPad?

Would it function the same as a laptop?

Yes, it possible to use a mouse and keyboard with an iPad.

It will work similar to a laptop when it comes to typing things. But it will not magically run full blown computer apps however. It will still be limited to same functions it can do now.

The mouse and keyboard will only let you enter text and control a small pointer on the screen instead of using your finger. Everything else will work exactly the same as it has without the keyboard and mouse.
