I found an ipod touch and I have factory reset it. However, its stating to be linked to an old apple id that I can no longer get into. Is there a way of taking off the lock so I am able to use the thing? I also have NO IDEA what gen it is because the previous owner scratched up the back and put a big ol sticker on the back as well. TYIA for any help I can get!

No.
It’s activation locked by the owner; only the owner can remove the lock.
