Will Same Apple ID on 2 computer lose files?

I now have two MacBooks with the same Apple ID. I migrated my files from the old one to the new one, and then realized I didn't WANT all of those files on my nice new clean computer! I want to now delete the files off of the new computer but since I'm using the same Apple ID I'm worried that the iCloud will sync and it will delete the files off the old computer. Is that how it works?

The files will be deleted from old Mac , when you delete files Delete files in iCloud Drive on iCloud.com - Apple Support from new Mac but will be moved in recently deleted and kept only for 30 days and after that they will be erased permanently Permanently remove deleted files on iCloud.com - Apple Support see the article How iCloud Drive works - Apple Support

Note : in old Mac the files will not be moved to recently delete as you deleted from new Mac .

You don't want to keep files in iCloud , again they will sync with old Mac , so decide do you want to keep on both places or move files to a different location in new Mac Work with folders and files in iCloud Drive - Apple Support
