Apple TV 4K

I just bought the new Apple TV 4K , but the remote only controls the Volume and doesn’t let me navigate… but my regular tv control does let me navigate… is this normal ?

The Apple TV remote will let you navigate the Apple TV’s screens, menus and apps, it will not let you navigate your your TVs menus and apps.
