Has anyone ran into issues with Touch ID setup on the new macBook pro with apple silicone?

Either the Touch ID or the fingerprint sensor is not working, I have not been able to complete Touch ID setup.


It worked during the initial setup. I was able to unlock the computer using my fingerprint. After the initial session was suspended, I can no longer use Touch ID to unlock the computer. I erased the old fingerprint from the initial setup and tried to add a new one, the key didn't even register my fingerprint. I am beginning to think that there is a defect with the new computer.

There are a few caveats using Touch ID—


There are a few instances where Touch ID will not be accepted by macOS:


• If you restarted your Mac, or if you're not logged into your user account.

• If you have not unlocked your Mac for 48 hours.

• If you are trying to unlock Security & Privacy

• If you are trying to unlock Users & Groups Preferences (when FileVault is on)

• If 5 wrong fingerprints attempts

If you still have an issue the go to way to sort Touch ID on the M1 Mac—


Try a SafeBoot https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201262

Takes noticeable longer to get to the login screen, does a 5-15 minute disk repair before it fully boots up, and certain system caches get cleared and rebuilt, including dynamic loader cache, etc. You can Login and test. Reboot and test —will take a little longer as caches get rebuilt.



If still no resolve, you can suspect you have a hardware issue:

contact Apple Support:

 https://www.apple.com/retail/geniusbar


or within the 14-day grace period on a new purchase you can return for a full refund or exhange for one that works out of the box as you would expect.
