when I connect my Time Machine disk from my old Mac, can I just transfer selected data or will it transfer everything?

I am decommissioning an old iMac. I have backed it up on an external HDD using Time Machine. I don't want to transfer all this data to my new Mac Mini . Can I use the Migration assistant to selct and transfer only the data I want?

Migrate what you Choose:

You would backup the old Mac as a Time Machine Backup. Then, import what you decide to import, all of which is performed through Migration Assistant.
