My husband lost Ipad passcode and the ipad was disabled. So I have connected to my computer and restarted to factory setting to the Ipad. But on Activation Lock tells me that he has incorrect Apple ID and password that I can not reset the passcode.

I am using my computer to fix my husband Ipad. He is trying to reset his Ipad passcode, but it does not accept his Apple ID or password

Hello kajiwara,

I am only asking because you are assisting him now. Is there a chance that you first set up the iPad for him using your Apple ID? Or did he ever use a different Apple ID? Also, if purchased second-hand you may need the original owner to remove the activation lock, if was not properly reset between owners.

How to remove Activation Lock - Apple Support

On the iPod -"Follow the onscreen steps to enter the Apple ID and password you used to set up your device or your device passcode."

On the web - "To remove Activation Lock from a device that's not in your possession, follow the steps below. If you purchased a device that's protected by Activation Lock, ask the previous owner to follow these steps."

I hope this is helpful.

Is the iPad disabled, or Activation Locked?

Activation Lock

Here are the Apple support pages that outline the Activation Lock - and the only mechanisms by which it can be turned off:

Activation Lock for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support

Turn off Activation Lock – Apple Support

As you will discover, unless you are the owner of the AppleID that was last used to activate the device, you’ll not be able to defeat or bypass the Activation Lock. With documentary evidence that you are the original owner (such as sales receipt showing the serial number), Apple may be prepared to assist - otherwise they and nobody here will be able to help you.

If you have the necessary documentation, Apple have recently introduced a new portal though which you may be able to request release of an Activation Lock:

How to remove Activation Lock - Apple Support & start an Activation Lock support request.

AppleID

If the AppleID and/or associated Password have been forgotten, the credentials can usually be recovered; a clue as to the primary email address (used to identify the AppleID account) should be visible on your screen.

If you have forgotten your AppleID or associated password, these can be recovered here:

https://iforgot.apple.com/

To recover your credentials, you’ll need access to any one of the following:

  • Your primary email address mailbox that corresponds with your AppleID
  • Any of the secondary/recovery email addresses that should be configured for your AppleID account
  • Any of the trusted telephone numbers (fixed line or Cellular/Mobile) that are associated with your AppleID

Unless you AppleID account has not been fully/correctly configured, or has been seriously neglected, recovery of the AppleID and password should not be difficult.

More information about recovery of your AppleID:

If you forgot your Apple ID - Apple Support

More information about recovery of your AppleID password:

If you forgot your Apple ID password - Apple Support

When you recover access to your credentials, you would be well advised to log-in to your AppleID account from a web browser - and verify/update any email addresses and trusted telephone numbers:

https://appleid.apple.com/

iPad Disabled

If your iPad is disabled, or you have forgotten your iPad passcode, you’ll need to follow this process:

If you’ve forgotten the passcode on your iPad, or your iPad is disabled – Apple Support

You’ll need access to either a PC (with iTunes installed) or a Mac (with iTunes or Finder - as appropriate for the installed version of MacOS).

You will need the Apple ID and password associated with the Activation Lock. The Activation Lock display will show a hint; the first character of the username, and the domain. Without that Apple ID and password, you will need an original purchase receipt showing serial number, or similar paperwork, and a discussion directly with Apple Support.

Well actually I have downloaded factory setting but when I see the activation locked screen and put the password, it tells me it is a wrong password

You here have what is indistinguishable from a lost or stolen device, until and unless you can recover the password associated with Activation Lock, or can present a purchase receipt with the serial number for Apple.

Activation Lock is intended as a theft deterrent, and is intentionally not easy to bypass.

Nobody here can help bypass Activation Lock, and—without sufficient proof of purchase—Apple won’t.
